Principal's Message
October 28, 2009
Dear Parents,
It is time for the Halloween carnival, trick-or-treating and all of that kind of stuff. Please remember to stay safe and if you choose to participate to make it a family affair. We do not do any costumes or major activities during the school day so don’t send your children to school on Friday in any costumes, save it for Friday night at the carnival.
We could really use your help during the pick up time at the end of the day. We really want parents to pick up their children outside. We just don’t have the room or can do it safely if parents come into the building. We end up violating fire codes and it is a big distraction to classes during the last part of the day. The best place to meet them is in the area that I am standing. If you want to be closer to the classrooms then go to the outside doors outside of their hall way and they will come out to you. If you really need to meet them inside then please wait in the area outside of the front office until after the bell rings. Thank you for your help in this matter.
With the first snow fall we had a lot of kids showing up late. We are in a place that snow is part of life and we still need to be on time. Please plan ahead and have your children to school on time, it makes everyone’s day better. The teachers can start teaching right away, the kids don’t have to make up the time during lunch recess, and parents aren’t mad at me because they think I am being unfair, and that makes my day better.
We have been trying very hard to keep the flu bug from being a big issue at the school. We are wiping stuff down all of the time, we have the kids wash their hands often and if kids are sick we are asking that you come and get them. Remember if they are sick please keep them home and don’t send them back for at least one day after you think they are well. So far we are doing pretty well and have not had a major outbreak. The vaccine should be available soon and we will let you know how to get it for your children if you would like them to have it.
With the colder weather and storms please send your kids to school with their coats, gloves and what ever they need to stay warm and dry. We don’t have a place to have the kids come into the building before school. If it is really wet or is below 20 degrees we will get the kids into the building.
As we get deeper into the school year I would like to suggest something that would really make a difference and is very easy to do. Take a minute to let the teachers know how much you appreciate the job they do and how much work they put into helping your children grow up to be educated members of our community. Most of us really appreciate what they do but don’t take the time to let them know how much. Teachers usually only hear about problems and that is unfortunate.
I would give the same advice about letting PTA know how much you appreciate what they do. When you see the volunteers working at the carnival this Friday evening please thank them for their time and energy.
Read with your kids every day, have dinner as a family, turn off the TV and video games during the week, and get some exercise every day.
Thanks, Doug McLennan
